Several years ago my husband and I had the opportunity to travel on an extended visit to England. Because of the nature of our stay there, we were privileged to be in many peoples homes both day and night. No matter what hour we arrived, the kettle was always put on and the tea tray soon appeared. As a guest, I always felt warmly welcomed by this gracious gesture of hospitality. I returned to America having caught the spirit of teatime and bought a tea cozy because I was sold on the idea and wanted to perpetuate it at home. I have been drinking and serving tea to my guests ever since.
House Specialteas, as with most home businesses, was conceived as a way to share my passion for tea while supplementing my husbands income and still stay home with my children.
Since its inception in 1996, House Specialteas has found good homes for over 900 tea cozies - every one handmade by me.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each and every cozy help support programs that are changing the lives of young women through literacy and vocational training.
